Iconographies

Ehikhamenor is perhaps best known for his works defined by the use of his signature abstracted iconography to fill and shape forms and figures. Spanning drawings, paintings, collages, sculptures, and immersive installations, these artworks employ an ancient script that references a past form of communication in the Benin Kingdom in which passersby would leave symbols and marks on walls to communicate various functions – what could and could not be found in that space. Taking the aesthetic of these marks, these works are constructed in the shape of a lost language, building spaces, figures, and forms that represent a contemporary society built on a past but tangible, visible history.
