These monumental works employ an ancient script that reference a past form of communication in the Benin Kingdom in which passersby would leave symbols and marks on walls to communicate various functions – what could and could not be found in that space. Taking the aesthetics of these marks, these works are created in the shape of a lost language, constructing spaces that represent a contemporary society built on a past but tangible, visible history.
